Description
This contains TWO different August differentiated center packs with teacher helpers. It contains:
Differentiated August Math Centers with Teacher Helpers
Differentiated Place Value Math Centers with Teacher Helpers
The Differentiated August Math Centers with Teachers Helpers:
This pack was created to support beginning of the year, independent, place value activities for the math block. This pack contains eight different activities, seven of which are differentiated. However, counted individually, this pack has sixteen activities. Teachers can use the skills to differentiate for students by difficulty level, or can have students complete all levels of the task, so the centers last for several weeks and scaffold upon themselves. The centers could also be used for differentiation in guided math groups. All activities include a recording sheet for student accountability. Please note some activities require additional materials such as dice, color counters, inch rulers or color tiles. The centers include:
*Look Whooo’s A Math Star- This is a differentiated activity. Students play a board game to practice mentally adding or subtracting 10 or 100 to a number. There are two versions of this activity. In the first activity, students find ten more or ten less of a given number. In the second activity students find a hundred more, or a hundred less of a given number.
*Double Trouble- Students play a board game to practice adding doubles. This activity is not differentiated.
*Tricky Tricks- Students play a board game to practice adding doubles plus one. This activity is not differentiated.
*Race to…- Students practice adding numbers by playing a game with a die. There are three versions of this game: adding to 25, adding to 50, and adding to 100.
*Pencil Problems- Students draw a card and solve the word problem on the card. There are three versions of this activity: word problems with addition to ten, addition to twenty, and mixed addition and subtraction to 20.
*Measure Up!- Students draw a card and measure the object to the nearest inch. This activity is differentiated by the tool the students use to measure (color tiles or inch ruler).
*Take a Bite Out of Time- Students match the analog time to the digital time. There are two versions of this game: telling time to the hour and telling time to the half hour.
*Pig Out on Counting- Students draw a card and count the coins on the card. There are three versions of this activity: counting coins to 50¢ with coin fronts, counting coins to 50¢ with coin fronts and backs, and counting coins to $1.00 with coin fronts.
The Differentiated Place Value Math Centers (Penciling in Place Value) with Teachers Helpers:
This pack was created to support beginning of the year, independent, place value activities for the math block. This pack contains six different activities, five of which are differentiated. However, counted individually, this pack has eighteen activities. Teachers can use the skills to differentiate for students by difficulty level, or can have students complete all levels of the task, so the centers last for several weeks and scaffold upon themselves. The centers could also be used for differentiation in guided math groups. All activities include a recording sheet for student accountability. The centers include:
*Sweet Hundreds-Students match base ten blocks to numbers in standard form, showing the special cases of 100, 200, 300, and so on. This is the only game that is not differentiated.
*Base Ten Block Match-Students match base ten blocks to numbers in standard form. This game has four versions: numbers to 50, numbers to 100, numbers to 500, and numbers to 1,000.
*Place Value Pigs-Students play a board game matching expanded form to base ten blocks. This game can be played in partners, small groups, or even individually. There are two versions of this game: numbers to 100 and numbers to 500.
*Backpack Place Value-Students match written form to standard form of numbers. This game has four versions: numbers to 50, numbers to 100, numbers to 500, and numbers to 1,000.
*Fabulous Place Value Four- Students use a work mat to find three of the four ways to show a number (standard form, written form, expanded form, and base ten blocks). Then, students record the missing form on the recording sheet. This game has four versions: numbers to 50, numbers to 100, numbers to 500, and numbers to 1,000.
*Bubbly Over Place Value- Students draw a card and write the value of the underlined digit. This game has three versions: numbers to 100, numbers to 500, and numbers to 1,000.
Teachers Helpers included for BOTH packs:
This is an additional pack of teacher’s helpers to make your math block as smooth as possible! Included in this file is:
