Are spelling inventories by hand? (This is not a WTW inventory) There is a better way! After over a hundred hours of research, development, trial, and tweaking, I have designed a new inventory embedded in a spreadsheet that does ALL the work for you! It automatically tells you the child's stage of development, how many words they spelled correctly, how many features they used correctly, which features were missed, what categories the features fall under. To save you even more time, this spreadsheet even GROUPS YOUR STUDENTS! It ranks them by score and groups them according to their stage of development!

Have you ever filled out a spelling inventory by hand? If so, you know they take about 5 minutes each… times 20 or so students…. Change 1-2 hours into 15 MINUTES of your time by using this assessment instead!

The best part is, all you have to do is type the words that the student MISSPELLED! That's it! Correctly-spelled words are already typed for you! Save this as a template and you can use it over and over again.

To save as a template:

1. Open the document

2. File > Save As… (Format: Excel Template. Make sure to select this option)

3. Open Excel > My Templates, There it is!

This spelling inventory was designed using feature-rich words with common spelling patterns. It contains 20 spelling words that should be administered as a traditional spelling test but with no prior practice. You can then enter student’s written answers into this spreadsheet and let it do all of the work for you!
