Description

Backwards Math Boxes!

This product contains 5 worksheets (4 pre-designed and 1 blank) made up of backwards math problems.

Having students work backwards in math goes a long way in developing numeracy and understanding! These worksheets be tailored for many different math skills, like requiring all answers be multiplication or all answers be subtraction.

I use these for whole-group activities where I require all students to create just addition or just multiplication problems to fit a particular unit we are in. I also have students find other students who wrote the same and different problems, and have them discuss how many different problems can have the same answer. For example: 2x4 and 5+3 equal the same number!

I also use these as a math center, and students play a game similar to Scattergories! Students fill out a sheet (that is laminated and reused to save paper) and then students get a point if their answer is different from everyone else's. (Note: playing this game requires at least 3 players.)

I hope your students will enjoy creating their own problems using Backwards Math Boxes as much as mine do!
