This program is designed to use flashcards and timed tests to sequentially build mastery of the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. It encourages repeated flashcard drill, regular testing, and built-in review of the facts so students' fact fluency is immediate and accurate by the end of the program.

However, while rote memorization is not a good way for long-term retention of concepts, it's great for something that needs to become habit, such as learning the alphabet or a poem, or, in this case, learning math facts. In the case of math facts, it's important to store facts in long term memory since much of math is based on the basic math facts. Once students know their basic facts, learning higher math concepts and solving more complicated math problems becomes easier.
