Engaging 10-page movie guide for "Big Fish (2003)" with 2 sets of differentiated questions with answers, ending essay, storyboard, word search, & crossword.

This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions. I have made two sets of questions for differentiation, depending on how much of a challenge you want to give the students. Answer keys included.
- 40 Questions in chronological order requiring full sentence answers.
- 25 Questions in chronological order (15 removed from the 40 question set)
PART 2 – Essay and Storyboard
- Essay. Students to imagine they're Will and sitting next to Ed in the hospital. Students have to write the ending of how Ed dies, just as Will did in the movie.
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. This is also an excellent way to help students prepare to write a summary of the movie.
PART 3 – Just for fun word search and crossword puzzle (10 questions with the answers being the words to find in the word search) also 5 additional words to find. Answer key included
Based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Daniel Wallace, the movie follows the incredible life of Edward Bloom, through a series of flashbacks and storytelling that begin when his son Will visits him for the last time.

Movies can be used as a follow on from a novel study
- There are a huge number of movies that have been adapted from books which allow for book to movie comparisons or simply as a reward for finishing the book.
Learning from movies is motivating and enjoyable
- Sometimes students need a change in style, and movies are generally an integral part of a student's life.
Movies provides authentic and varied language
- It's always a good idea to introduce students examples of English in real situations. This includes accents different to your own.
Movies gives a visual context
- This gives the student the ability to interpret the language in full visual context. To see such visual supports as facial expressions and gestures simultaneously.
Variety and flexibility
- Movies can also act as a springboard for follow-up tasks such as discussions, debates on social issues, role plays, reconstructing a dialogue or summarizing.
