Description

This is a great independent activity to check younger student’s understanding about the difference between a Big Problem, and a Small Problem. I teach this concept at the beginning of the school year with my younger students.  If they are able to tell the difference between these types of problems, they will feel more confident in knowing how to handle them.

This worksheet can be done as a class discussion, or it can be completed individually.

When talking about solving a small problem where no one is hurt or in danger, encourage students to come up with a way they will try to solve it on their own.  A few ideas could be to try and ignore it, to ask them to stop, or tell them how it makes you feel.

When talking about solving a big problem, you want students to always know that they need to tell an adult right away.

Check out my Big Or Small Problem Sorting Activity to go along with this lesson! It comes in a paper or digital version!

Here's a Big or Small Problem worksheet that could be used as a follow up activity, or with slightly older students!

I hope you enjoy using this activity!

I taught and use this wheel all the time in my Kindergarten classroom. I used a problem solving wheel to use some really great problem solving strategies. I taught it alongside a big problem vs. Small problems book.
