Description

Through a gradual release model and explicit steps, your students will be able to identify nonfiction text as descriptive, sequence, problem/solution, compare/contrast, or cause & effect. This resource includes anchor charts, a tab booklet, graphic organizers, practice, and assessment. Your students need this in their reading toolbox for comprehension.

Just as a carpenter builds frameworks with tools, authors building informational text structures have tools for writing to teach the reader. This theme makes your teaching points for building informational structures concrete and easy to remember.

•Begin with the anchor chart (or pocket chart) to state your objective and why we need these tools in our reading toolbox. Use the tab book to model reading the text and plugging the information into the graphic organizer. Students can then keep this resource for a reference or glue it in their interactive notebooks.

•Using the gradual release model, have students complete the practice passages with a partner or independently.
