Description

This bundle includes four different products sold separately in my store, all together for one low price! Begin with the Business Letter Writing Unit, with a full interactive PowerPoint that teaches formatting for business letters (you can teach Block and Mixed, and you can also teach Modified and Open if you desire--both are there). This unit also included an invaluable video that teaches the entire lecture on business letters for those pesky absent kids of it they just forget and need a reference. Included in this unit is also 21 letters that are prepared and ready to be typed up using proper format. But before you let them loose....

The Self Grading Business Letters...in Spreadsheets??? is a great way to help the kids assess themselves on what they know about writing business letters. Students format the letters in Excel or Google Sheets--which sounds odd but is fantastic because they get immediate feedback if they are doing their spacing, punctuation, and formatting correct. Instead of waiting a day or two to hear back from you, they know immediately what they need to fix. I found that once I started using this assignment, their number of errors on their first letters when down dramatically!

Students then work on typing up the letters in the business letter unit. They can do them all or only a few, depending on how much time you have and how well they are learning. Then they are ready for the the Complaint Letter Activity--a great way to see them APPLY business letter writing and to understand the value of it. And it's fun! Kids draw from an envelope the four parts of a complaint letter--Product, Problem, Consequence, and Action Requested. They construct a letter in proper format where they write a complaint letter about the things they drew. Problem is--they don't always match. You could get a Bobble-Head the smells bad, which caused your little brother to run away, and now you want $1,000 compensation. Or maybe...dance shoes that won't turn off, which caused you to go blind in one eye, and now you are filing a lawsuit. The fun never ends! I have often used this assignment as a quiz, to see if they truly are prepared before the test.

Before they take the test, spend some time with Corrected Letters. This includes 6 letters already written with errors that need to be found and fixed. It helps students see it from another angle, and it's interesting to see that even though they can write a letter well, they can't always point out what is wrong with one they see.

Finally they are ready, and the test is included in the original Business Letter Unit files. They've had plenty of practice--they'll do great!

I did a huge update on this resource back in 2021 where I fixed a lot of the spelling errors, so I am surprised to see this critique. I opened the files and could not find anything major other than an extra space here or there. I would appreciate more details on where you are finding these spelling errors that I may have missed? Do you have the most recent update? If you are willing, I would absolutely love more detailed feedback on this--feel free to email me as mrsfunnybusiness@gmail.com so I can fix these errors. Thank you!

There were aspects of this resource that my students were engaged in; however, the grammatical errors on the notes made it more difficult for my students to understand what was being asked.

I took at look at the notes to see what errors you were referring to. I did find three--"does" instead of "goes", "color" instead of "colon" and "use" instead of "uses." If there are any others I am missing, please feel free to let me know at mrsfunnybusiness@gmail.com. I am fixing those errors to they will be fixed on the next download. I am sorry to see that these three small errors, however annoying, was enough to rate the entire product so low. I hope you are willing to re-evaluate once I have fixed these errors. And please, if there are other errors elsewhere, feel free to let me know. My state standards changed many years ago and I no longer teach this resource, so it does not get as many updates as some of my others. I'm glad that your students enjoyed at least some of the work. Thank you!

I was thrown into a role with significant turnover. This allowed me to have a foundation to start and prepare my class accordingly to ensure the student's success.
