Description
Using M&M candies students will learn the steps of the scientific method. They will learn to write a question, hypothesis, and procedure. Then they will record and analyze data in a data table (along with collecting data from other groups and calculating totals) and then draw a graph. Students will then write a well developed conclusion or CER (utilizing writing skills across subject areas!) and then develop 2 new questions that can be answered doing a similar activity. Appropriate vocabulary is also included.
Doing this activity makes it easy to incorporate a writing activity into your science lesson.
This activity is appropriate for middle school level students and I have used it in my own 8th grade Physical Science class and 7th Grade Life Science class for years. They love this activity!
This bundle file also contains the lesson plan, Worksheet, grading rubric, and a mini science tri-fold board display that follows this lesson. You can choose to have students write a traditional conclusion or a CER to summarize their findings.
