CSI: Color, Symbol, Image is a thinking routine for gathering the essence of ideas nonverbally. Students will use a color, symbol, and image to represent the big idea from the lesson. In this resource, you will find teacher instructions for using this strategy with specific directions, 3 differentiated templates for the CSI for different grade levels, and 3 differentiated symbol options.
This strategy can be used with virtually ANY lesson and ANY subject to engage students in critical thinking. Students represent their thinking about a concept, text, song, picture, etc. It can help facilitate deeper conversations with your students and offer you a chance to see your student’s understanding nonverbally. This routine can also be used countless times throughout the year!
