This Smartboard lesson effectively teaches the CUBES strategy for solving story problems. The strategy is taught through visual images and discussion, and is followed by opportunities for students to come to the Smartboard and practice what they have learned. I can't claim to have invented the strategy, but I can attest to the effectiveness of its use. I've used this with first, second and third graders and have seen their success rate skyrocket.
