Description

Your students will love to learn their CVC words by playing the popular card game WAR!

How to play:

⇒ War! is a two-player game. Deal the same number of cards to each player.

⇒ Each player puts their cards in a face-down pile in front of them. Each player then takes the top card from their pile, lays it down face up and reads the word on their card aloud and checks the number at the bottom of the card.

⇒ If the numbers are different, the player with the lower number wins that round, takes both cards and puts them face down on the bottom of their pile of cards.

⇒ If the numbers are the same, that means the words rhyme and the players are in a War! Each player should say “[their word] rhymes with [other player’s word]! War!” Each player should take three cards from the top of their pile and spread them out in front of them, leaving them face down. Then each player takes the next card from the top of their pile, lays it down face up and reads the word aloud. Players should again compare the numbers at the bottom of their cards. If they are different, the player with the lower number wins all of the cards. If the numbers are the same, the players go to War! again, and so on.

⇒ The first player to collect all of the cards wins the game.
