Description
Exponential decay basics are spelled out in the context of car values. Guided notes offer a detailed explanation of how exponential decay works, then students practice the concept through word problems finding current and initial amounts.
This resource is used in 2 of my units but modified slightly to be appropriate for each unit. You will receive both versions. A simpler, more direct, one-page version is provided for use in the Car Online Tools unit and takes about 20 minutes. A second two-page version with more examples is meant for the Car Depreciation unit. This version takes about 40 minutes. Detailed answer keys for both versions with all work shown are included.
**All resources come as pdf's and editable PowerPoints (which can be opened in Google Slides). NOTE: The PowerPoints are the original versions that were used to create the pdf's. They are not considered to be slideshows or used for presentations.
This is one of the resources I created to “trick” my lower level math students into learning more advanced algebra concepts without realizing it - much like how I add shredded zucchini to a chocolate muffin recipe so my kids don’t realize they’re eating vegetables! All of the practice problems are set in the context of car values where students must identify the correct amount for each variable before they can even begin solving. I’ve never heard them ask “why” they’re learning exponential decay because every problem shows a practical application of real-life math.
What is included:
- Exponential Decay Notes/Problems worksheet
- Exponential Decay Notes/Problems worksheet KEY
You may also like:
- Depreciation Basics
- nth Roots notes & practice
- Logarithm notes & practice
- Continuous Decay notes & practice
- Car Math Unit BUNDLE
Also included in:
- Car Depreciation Unit Bundle
- Online Car Loan & Depreciation Tools BUNDLE
