"Great resource for my students. I believe this resource will really help in my middle school math class by giving them a better understanding of the concepts and helping them build more confidence in solving problems."

Description

Have your students work together to collect a bunch of different data and then create scatterplots! You can extend the activity by having them draw lines of best fit, find equations, and discuss the characteristics of each graph. You can also compare different class graphs if you teach multiple classes for added discussion!

Construct and interpret scatter plots for bivariate measurement data to investigate patterns of association between two quantities. Describe patterns such as clustering, outliers, positive or negative association, linear association, and nonlinear association.
Know that straight lines are widely used to model relationships between two quantitative variables. For scatter plots that suggest a linear association, informally fit a straight line, and informally assess the model fit by judging the closeness of the data points to the line.
