Description

Included are 3 editable templates for your students to complete rock, mineral, and fossil classification labs. Both labs are set up for 8 stations, but you can change the number of stations based on what you have available.

In the rock classification lab, students will look at a type of rock, record the name, figure out which category it falls into (igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic), write down any characteristics and make a drawing. Reference sheets for characteristics are provided. 5 post lab questions follow the lab.

In the mineral classification lab, students will look at a mineral sample, record the name, color, streak, hardness, luster, and cleavage/fracture. Mohs hardness reference sheet is provided. 5 post lab questions follow the lab.

In the fossil classification lab, students will write down the name of the fossil, infer if it is a plant or animal, where it lived, figure out which type of fossil it is (reference sheets are provided), and make a drawing. 2 post lab questions follow the lab.

This activity was fun but challenging for the kids. I like that is was hands on but they do need to have a good foundation before doing the lab. Make sure you have all the resources before purchasing

This was great! My kiddo loved learning about rocks this year, so when he was given the chance, what he would like to study more of at the end of this school year, he picked rocks. I dug out an old rock collection I had in the garage and let him read about them and categorize them. Thanks for making my job easy and his learning fun!
