Coding with Dash: Math Maze Multiplication
Share

Description

With the Coding Activities: Math Maze with Dash students are asked to use Dash to help them code Dash through a math multiplication maze. With this activity packet, there are several sets of cards that you can use to make a maze. Students are to use their own discretion as to what is the best way they can make it from the start to the finish within a certain number of moves. Students are asked to choose 8 spots to land on and answer those math questions. If they land on the same question twice, it is okay.

You can set a number of movements students are to complete the activity in. I will choose between 15 to 20 movements. Students code Dash to move within the given space.

What is Included?
To set up this activity, choose which set of cards you would like to use. Set 1 includes multiplication up to the 9’s. Set 2 includes multiplication up to 12.

Printing: Print off, laminate and cut out the cards. There are six cards per page.

Spacing Cards: Find a square in the room where this activity can take place. Place one card per 5 cm apart from each other.

Photocopying: Photocopy the “Math Maze with Dash” instruction card and the “Math Maze with Dash” recording sheet.

Dear Educator: First, let me thank you for downloading the Follow Us To . . . Structural Tour of Canada. With this resource, students are asked to combine their knowledge of structures (both man-made and natural) to identify one interesting man-made and one interesting natural structural that can be found in their chosen province or territory. What is Included in this Resource? In this resource, you are presented with bulletin board letters that can be used to create a display with students’ final presentations/responses. Task Description: There is a task description sheet included to explain to students what is being expected of them. With this task description, co-create success criteria with students in terms of what would make a good task response. A sample response is provided in this resource on two example structures that can be found in Alberta. Response Template: You can have students respond using the given template, or you can have students come up with a similar template, and use the given template as a planning page for students. Map: For the map, students are asked to use two colours – one to indicate the man-made structure, and one to indicate the natural structure. Enough space on the legend is provided for students to write all, or part, of the structure name. This map should be attached to the task response in the upper right-hand corner, or can be placed above or below the response. Reminders: It is important to note that students do not have to provide popular examples of man-made and natural structures that can be found in the area they are researching. Sample Response: A sample response is included in this resource. With the sample, you can see what a student response might look like, and the type of information that might be included on the task sheet that students are completing. I truly hope that you enjoy this resource. If you have any questions or comments about this resource, please be sure to send me an email at teachinginawonderland@gmail.com, and I will be more than happy to respond! Melanie
