Description

These free pages were taken from my much larger complete 5E Lesson: DNA Structure and Function. This was taken from a portion on the extension section of the 5E lesson plan.

During the extension phase of the 5E instructional model, students participate in activities that connect what they learned in the Explanation phase to new activities with increased levels of difficulty.  This allows students to organize and reinforce the new learning from the Explanation Phase and apply it to different circumstances.

This resource allows students to practice their understanding of DNA structure and function. Students will complete a short reading about DNA, brainstorm in groups traits coded for by DNA, practice new academic vocabulary, use critical thinking to answer questions about DNA base percentages, and solidify their understanding of DNA structure by color coding a DNA molecule.

Although I do not use this lesson every year, it is a resource that adds to the curriculum I already have quite well.
