Description

Third Grade Problem Solving - Multi-step Problems - This is perfect for distance learning on Zoom or similar formats. On top of that it is powerful when used as direct instruction in the classroom. It teaches the students how to solve a problem when there is more than one step. Four steps of problem solving are emphasized: Figure it out, Set it up, Solve the problem and Look back and check. This lesson is built on 22 effective teaching strategies based on research. For best results, students should have white boards and dry erase markers. Included in this powerpoint lesson are the following:

  • title slide
  • focus slide
  • objective
    • Students will be able to solve problems using “multiple steps.”
  • essential questions
    • How can I solve problems with “multiple steps”?
  • concept development
  • step-by-step demonstrations on how to solve multi-step problems
  • checking for understanding
  • guided practice
  • problem solving with word problem
  • reward slide
