Description

Fourth Grade Addition and Subtraction 2 - This is perfect for distance learning on Zoom or similar formats. On top of that it is powerful when used as direct instruction in the classroom. It teaches students how to write the inverse operation of addition and how to write fact families. The concept of inverse operation is explained and modeled. Students learn the definition of addend and sum. They use the inverse operation to find missing addends in number sentences. There are 22 effective teaching strategies used in this lesson base on research. For best results, students should have white boards and dry erase markers. Included in this powerpoint lesson are the following:

  • title slide
  • focus slide
  • objectives
    • Students will be able to write the related addition and subtraction as inverse operations.
    • Students will be able to solve unknown numbers by using fact families.
  • essential questions
    • How can I write the related addition and subtraction as inverse operations?
    • How can I solve unknown numbers by using fact families?
  • vocabulary development
  • concept development
  • demonstration on how to write fact families and find missing addends
  • guided practice
  • checking for understanding
