Fourth Grade Addition and Subtraction 1 teaches students how use place value and patterns to help students with addition and subtraction. First, students learn to add & subtract numbers with zeros on the end, next students are taught to look for combinations of 10 when adding columns. There is a title slide, focus, objective, essential question, step-by-step demonstration on how to add and subtract numbers ending in zero and using 10 combinations to add column addition, guided practice, checking for understanding, problem solving steps with a word problem, and a reward slide at the end. For best results, students should have white boards and dry erase markers.
