The lesson is designed to teach students how to add and subtract fractions in the same way that algebraic fractions are added. I have been successfully teaching students at the high school level mastery of fractions. This is a the follow up to the critical "bridge" lesson (Egyptian Fractions) between mastery of prime factorization to laying the foundation towards mastery of operations with fractions. These skills are critical building blocks to Algebra skills in factoring, algebraic fractions, radicals, and logarithms. Over the years, I have seen too many students struggle in Algebra because of not being able to manage factors mentally.
