STORY:

Last year, I started taking a strong interest in CrossFit® outside of my school life. I fell in love with the structure of the workouts that allow for challenge at any person’s level of fitness. I did some research looking at how popular CrossFit has become in our society and I understand why. I thought to myself, “what if math class could be this addicting and fun?” This product came out of that. I use it in my own classroom to structure my math time each day starting with a warm up to work on student’s fluency, a challenge to push their problem solving skills and then my usual lesson and student practice. I love having a well-designed fluency warm up and deep-thinking challenge for every day of the year already made and ready to go!

POSSIBLE EXTENSIONS:

Possible extensions are included in the file!

MATERIALS/PRE-REQS:

Besides this file, you may require:

✏️ Binders for each student

✏️ Timer Visible to all students (I use my projector)

Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.
