Description

PURPOSE:

Start making your students take responsibility for their own learning and homework – students earn "income" (into their imaginary checking accounts) by completing homework assignments, projects or extra practice. Then, once money has been deposited, students will have options for what they would like to spend that money on. In addition, there are also classroom fines which students can receive "a ticket" for such as talking at the wrong time or not sitting in their seats.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

This product contains:

✏️ Instructions for use

✏️ List of “achievements” (earning money and spending money options)

✏️ Table for recording student account balances

STORY:

Printing out classroom dollars can be very time consuming and difficult to manage within a classroom. So during my first year of teaching, I came up with this system. In addition, all of the spending possibilities are written as achievements just like the students see in the video games they play. For example, the "Mobility +1" perk allows students to move to another place in the room at a price while the "Slow and Steady" reward is given to students who bring their homework to class consistently.

Keep track of everyone's account balance on the whiteboard and have them compete for top class perks. This system is certified teacher-tested and classroom-approved. Download today!

POSSIBLE EXTENSIONS:

This system leads to plenty of good conversations about money and the real world. It also can easily extend into the world of interest / loans / credit cards if you so choose.

MATERIALS/PRE-REQS:

Besides this file, you may require:

✏️ Pre-teaching on checking accounts and money vocabulary

✏️ Checking Account App / Spreadsheet Software (optional)

Students love how easy it is to understand. It’s easy for me to track, too.

Thanks Teresa! The Full Classroom economy system available in my shop is far more comprehensive if you are looking for something more in depth!

Candidly, this package is a disappointment. It includes a small list of classroom liberties to be purchased and accomplishments to be rewarded. I understand that every teacher will want to customize his/her own list, but a more comprehensive list would have been much better. Additionally, the file is .pdf and not easily edited. The other usable item is a simple spreadsheet for keeping students' accounts up-to-date. Once again, it's .pdf and the user can't update it electronically. This particular package would have been a more appropriate "freebie" to get a feel of the creator's style and substance. In fairness, the Full Classroom Economy by the same creator looks significantly better, but also at an assumed inflated price of $14 or so. Ah well.... Lesson learned--unfortunately, for $4. (Perhaps I'm the one that needs a lesson in money management???) Edit: In for a penny, in for a pound? I've taken a closer look at the preview of the full version and your fines are really clever. The simulated classroom checks look good too. How would you feel about using the $3.99 as a credit towards the full version of this program? Edit 2: Purchased. Thanks! =)

I like that idea David! Thank you for your thorough review. You are actually the first to download this particular product. I will consider making this a free product or making sure that the description is more accurate in its description. I will go ahead and set my other classroom economy product (which is the best selling item in my store) to $10.00 for the next two days so you can go buy it. It is well worth it! I have used that system every year that I have ever taught. Anyway, thank you again for the feedback - I do want this product to interest you in my other classroom economy product. Thanks for the download.
