Description

This printable includes a Comparing Candy Work Mat and Candy Number Cards (to be cut apart). To give your students hands-on comparing practice, provide each student with a copy of a work mat (laminated or in a page protector). Choose a candy number card, then ask your students to count out pieces of candy (or counters if you prefer) to represent that number and place them in the first candy jar. Then ask a student to use a dry erase marker to write the number on the line below. Choose another candy number card and read the number aloud to the students. Ask them to count out candy to represent this number and place it in the second candy jar then write the number on the line below. Last, ask a student in the group to compare the sets aloud using a sentence like: "The first set of candy is greater than the second set of candy.", "The first set of candy is less than the second set of candy.", "The first set of candy is equal to the second set of candy." Students could also do this activity independently or in pairs.
