This is the second companion to the Place Value Activities file I have uploaded. In this PowerPoint, the students will...
1. Identify equations that can be used to make a certain number (there are an infinite number of correct answers).
e.g. 56: 50 + 6; 8 x 7; 67 - 11; etc.
2. Identify if numbers are even or odd.
3. Interpret numbers in different ways using guiding questions.
e.g. How can you build 8,931 with only thousands, tens, and ones?
4. Sort numbers into Venn Diagrams based on certain properties, such as: Even, odd, sum of digits < 10, numbers >50,000, and more.
This is a wonderful, interactive tool that requires higher thinking for the students. They love coming to the board to complete the Venn Diagrams and the blanks. The students can also use their dry erase boards to answer the questions from their desks before being asked to answer on the board. That will motivate them to be engaged and will be a quick and easy way for you to monitor understanding and assist those who need an extra minute.
