"I liked this resource a lot. I had to help them a little bit with how the answers were written. Mainly with my regular biology class. My honors could read and understand it a little better. But this was a nice resource for my students. "

Product Description

This is a fully functional, completely digital escape room that was designed to help teach students about complex patterns of genetic inheritance. Topics covered in the activity include incomplete dominance, codominance, epistasis, multiple alleles, and sex determination in humans.

This product contains three online delivery options and can easily be utilized for distance learning.

This activity works great as a review and/or enrichment activity but can also serve as an introductory assignment in some cases. Many of my students ask that I leave the assignment open before testing so that they can use it as a study tool.

Included in this activity are four fully viable options for using the assignment in your classroom: a Google Form version that can be accessed from any internet capable device (in my opinion this is the best option for using this activity in the classroom), a web site version that can be accessed from an internet ready device, a printable version that can be handed out to each student, and a Microsoft OneNote version that can be used by students who have access to this Microsoft app. Instructions for setting up and using each of the different versions of the escape room are included in the product download. A file containing the passwords for each page of the activity is also included.

Once you begin using digital escape rooms, you will find that they are an exciting new way to provide instruction for your students. Having taught science in public schools for over 35 years, I don't get excited over many of the new techniques or activities. Most are simply repackaged versions of older ideas. Digital escape rooms are different. These activities teach students to solve problems, think critically and analytically, and also to read and follow directions. Students will not give up on these activities - they just keep on working. Students are challenged and are learning, but are having fun at the same time. Whether you purchase these activities or you decide to build your own, I strongly encourage teachers to get involved in using escape room activities in their classroom.

This digital escape activity will challenge your students' problem solving and critical thinking skills while at the same time strengthening their understanding of the material. Students will be "playing a game" while learning. Students must read for context, answer questions, and use logic to move through the stages of this activity. When used as a small group activity, this notebook can be used to provide for collaborative learning in a competitive environment.  Questions in the activity may require students to remember or discover facts and interpret information to find passwords.

On average, to complete this assignment will require students have 40 to 50 minutes. This time is, of course, an estimate and will depend on the educational levels of each class. In many cases this activity could take longer to complete while in a few instances the time estimate may be a little too high.

Simply extract the files from the .zip file and you are ready to set up your escape room.

The video preview is a generic example to give you some idea of how the escape activity will work. The preview is done using the Google Forms version of the activity and the web site version or the OneNote version will vary to some degree.

I love doing stations before a quiz as a way to review and these were nice, short and easy to implement. I loved that they were already digitally available as well.

My 9th-grade biology students were really put to the test with this one. It showed me pretty quickly who knew their stuff and who still needed help. This was used as a review activity before a test. Students were engaged and really enjoyed the activity.
