Description
Included in this package is a set of guided notes and answer key for lessons on complex numbers as a part of a unit on solving quadratics algebraically. Lessons include simplifying radicals including (and not including) imaginary numbers, complex conjugates, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of complex numbers.
Included in each lesson are "You Try!" questions to be used for formative assessment. I typically go around the room and put a stamp or sticker on each student's paper when they correctly answer the question. At the end of the packet is learning target checklist where students can rate themselves each day on their progress toward mastery of the objectives.
The package includes a PDF and editable .docx version of the note packet as well as a complete answer key. Feel free to make your own edits to appropriately align to your curriculum and teaching style for use in the classroom. Disclaimer: Formatting can sometimes change upon opening the Word document on a new computer. I recommend you scan over the document before printing. Equations require MathType 6 to edit.
Individual lesson notes and related products are also available for individual purchase:
Solving Quadratics (Complete Unit Notes for Algebra)
Factoring Quadratics (Guided Notes for Algebra)
The Quadratic Formula and Discriminant (Guided Notes for Algebra)

This is an excellent resource with great practice for students. Highly recommend!
This is a great resource! I use this at the beginning of the unit on complex numbers. The guided notes are really well organized and this makes teaching the lesson so much easier. Students are engaged and focused when they are learning new material. Thank you!
My students loved this lesson and all the knowledge they got from it
It follows a generic math lesson pattern instead of having the students explore the concept of complex numbers. I had to add a lot to this.
I love using this resource as part of my introduction to complex numbers. My students are engaged when I use it.
This was a great resource for starting with complex numbers with my students. Very well organized.
Great
Very engaging and understandable notes for students.
