Description

While many grammar and writing programs focus on identifying parts of speech and types of sentence structure, few zero in on writing sentences in a step-by-step, building block fashion.

In this concise yet comprehensive guide, students are taught COMPOUND-COMPLEX sentence structure in a unique fashion: through creating recipes! Students learn the basic sentence components from the ground up and how to add “flavor” to their writing without losing the structure and meaning of a good sentence.

Avoid fragments and run-ons by teaching students the necessary structure of compound-complex sentences and then demonstrating in increasing increments how to add detail to sentences without losing that structure.

This guide offers:

• Description and examples of a compound-complex sentence.

• Parts of speech that can be used to create a sentence (ingredients).

• Varied student practice opportunities (recipes).

• Conversion of intangibles (concepts) to tangibles (ingredients, formulas, recipes).

• Methodology successful for all students, including those needing targeted and intensive RTI writing interventions.

NOTE: For those of you wanting building blocks for designing SIMPLE, COMPOUND or COMPLEX sentences with student practice opportunities, check out the other “Cooking Up Sentences” offerings in my store, including “Cooking Up Sentences – Recipes for Sentence Types” which is a culmination of all four sentence type offerings. In addition, "Parts of Speech - Quick Reference" offers reference sheets that help students to truly understand nouns, verbs, and other parts of speech, in turn allowing students to better comprehend the foundation needed for building different types of sentences.

While I'm a seasoned veteran at teaching, I'm still pretty new to TpT and would really appreciate you taking the time to rate my product once you've tried it. Thank you!

Awesome! You're welcome! Look for a new product coming soon that will enhance the Cooking up Sentences products - sheets with lists of potential subjects/objects, verbs, adjectives, etc., for the student to reference when building sentences. Likely I will offer this free for awhile.
