To help students collaborate together, I have my students wear different colored beads to represent their role in the group. Students work in groups of four with a leader, discussion director, encourager, and materials manager and each student in the group wears the corresponding bead color. If there are only three students in a group, I have one student assume two roles. This collaboration sheet not only assigns roles to students, but also allows students to rate their peers at the end of the activity on how well they accomplished their role.
