Description

Cross Simplifying Lesson - Teach your students the math behind the shortcuts! This lesson will unveil the math behind the shortcut "cross-cancelling" which students use simplify fractions before multiplying them. Chances are your students have no idea why it works or where it comes from.

Cross simplifying to give it a name that depicts what is actually happening. Teach your students to understand, and they'll never have to memorize!

This lesson works best within a multiplying fractions unit for upper elementary or middle school math, but can also be used as a refresher for high schoolers who are about to learn operations with rational polynomials!

  • 12 practice problems

  • Corresponding Google Slides
  • Implementation Suggestions
