This webquest is fantastic! It’s expertly structured to encourage independent exploration while keeping students on track. The links are reliable, and the guiding questions promote deep thinking rather than just "copy-pasting." It’s a seamless way to integrate technology and kept my class fully engaged from start to finish!

My students really liked this one. I started off with Task 3 since it required no internet and we did it whole class. I also made Task 4 not optional, but instead they pick which they want and write a summary of what they learned. I LOVE WebQuests by this author, we did the DNA Structure and Protein Synthesis ones in the same unit and they learned a lot!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
NGSSHS-LS3-1
Ask questions to clarify relationships about the role of DNA and chromosomes in coding the instructions for characteristic traits passed from parents to offspring. Assessment does not include the phases of meiosis or the biochemical mechanism of specific steps in the process.
NGSSMS-LS3-1
Develop and use a model to describe why structural changes to genes (mutations) located on chromosomes may affect proteins and may result in harmful, beneficial, or neutral effects to the structure and function of the organism. Emphasis is on conceptual understanding that changes in genetic material may result in making different proteins. Assessment does not include specific changes at the molecular level, mechanisms for protein synthesis, or specific types of mutations.
NGSSHS-LS1-1
Construct an explanation based on evidence for how the structure of DNA determines the structure of proteins, which carry out the essential functions of life through systems of specialized cells. Assessment does not include identification of specific cell or tissue types, whole body systems, specific protein structures and functions, or the biochemistry of protein synthesis.
