Transform the date into daily math warm-up with numerical expressions, math facts, order of operations, and more, using Math Dates.
Whether you display them on the board or use the included calendar cards, Math Dates transform ordinary calendar dates into bite-sized math activities for daily review.
- Math Dates and the 'solve and color' worksheets for each month help your 4th & 5th grade students think about math in different ways as they increase their math flexibility!
- If math review is something your 4th and 5th grade students always seem to need, these Math Dates (dates as mathematical expressions) are a great way to add some daily math review to any class!
The basic idea of 'Math Dates' is to use the date to consistently review and reinforce math concepts, and possibly use as extensions or enrichment.
Each part of the date is written as an expression.
- For example, January 1, 2025, could be: 5^2 ÷ 25/7 + 2 ÷ 9/16 + 9.
- The slashes are used to separate day, month, year, just like writing the date as 1/1/25
You can have students simply observe and note the date’s expression, or challenge them to solve it as part of your morning routine.

These Daily Math Dates for 4th - 5th Grades:
- Use basic facts/operations
- Have expressions with multiplying and adding, so students will need to remember, or learn, to follow the order of operations
- Include several phrases with exponents
- Include square roots
- Include decimal and fraction problems
This full-year bundle of Daily Math Date Warm-Ups includes:
1) 12 months of math dates lists
- Includes weekends (you can always put one of the weekend dates on the board during the week and see if your students notice that you made a “mistake.”)
2) 12 blank calendars (one for each month)
- Students can record the date’s expression and their work for reaching a solution.
- Calendars also include the direction for students to create their own expressions. (I found that some students really like this challenge – students asked me if they could create their own, so now they have a place to keep track of them!)
