Description

This experiment will help students practice the scientific method and lab procedures covered in class. Students will place raisins into soda and observe what happens. The writing is scaffolded to help students learn about scientific writing during experiments.

I use this at the beginning of the year to practice several science skills:

  • The scientific method
  • Hypothesis writing
  • Making observations that help collect evidence
  • Claim, evidence, reasoning
  • Following directions
  • Practicing lab safety
  • Using lab tools successfully
  • Working together with new lab partners
  • Sharing results

We did this lab with my 5/6 class. I changed a few things (like we do), and we were able to get a good start on the scientific method. Thank you!
