Description

Do your students hate writing in math?

A unique way to get students writing in math. There are 28 pages of graphics--box plots, histograms, dot plots, stem and leaf plots, and percents bar graphs, and data sets. Students will use these graphics to identify the lie about the graphics OR write two true statements and 1 lie about the graph.

An EDITABLE VERSION is included. You will need to have Microsoft Powerpoint in order to edit it. You can change the truths and lies already written about a graphic.

Having students write in mathematics can be difficult. Get students up and moving around the room while they are engaged in writing in math with this activity.

Topics Include:

  • Dot Plots
  • Box Plots
  • Stem-and-Leaf Plots
  • Histograms
  • Percent Bar Graphs
  • Data Sets

Students will write two truths and one lie (adapted from the get to know you game) about the graphics. Teacher Instructions included. There are two versions.

In the first versions, each group of students will get a graphic or word problems and write two truths and one lie about it. Afterwards, students will get sticky notes to identify the lies on other groups papers.

In a second version of this, the truths and the lies are already written and students need to identify which of the three statements is the lie.

This can be used as a review at the end of the lesson or you can break up the resource and review pieces as you go throughout your unit.

I was excited to use the 2 Truths and a Lie activity to review statistics with my advanced math intervention group. However, In the first few pages of the "filled in" version, I found several errors. - i.e. 2 lies and even 3 lies. I can still use the blank versions, but I'm very disappointed in this resource. I sure hope the "Filled In" version gets fixed.

I did the first seven pages and four of them have incorrect answers. It doesn't follow the rules of the game if more than one of them is a lie. It would be great if the answers were correct.
