Description

This Fifth Grade Math Decimal Operations Unit is designed to be teacher and student-friendly with math lessons and activities that are fun, engaging, and easy to prep. This unit includes fifteen days of lessons designed to teach adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals with base ten blocks and the standard algorithm, multiplying decimals by whole numbers, and multiplying decimals by decimals. Whether you are looking for a stand-alone curriculum or a supplement to your required school curriculum, this comprehensive unit has everything you need to teach fifth grade standards with ease.

Not all math curriculum is awful. Just sum. Ba-da-bum!

But when it is bad, it is very, very bad. And unfortunately, a lot of traditional math curriculum is very, very bad. It’s overly complex, too long, impossible to differentiate, difficult to manage, and, frankly, not much fun. It can be hard to wade through all the extras and find the most valuable parts of the lesson. You don’t have time to read dozens of pages in the teacher manual and there are way too many different pieces to prep. Ugh!

If that sounds like your math curriculum, you’re in luck. Because now you have an alternative that is very, very good. A math curriculum that you and your students will LOVE!

This Decimal Operations Unit includes fun, engaging, and easy-to-prep lessons and hands-on activities. It is the perfect way to review essential math skills and get kids excited about math.

My 4th grade enrichment group was a little intimidated when I said we were going to bump up our addition and subtraction unit with decimals. Once they saw it and actually practiced, they loved it! This was a great resouce, especially because it easily builds on the previous lesson and includes important math vocab.

We have a specific curriculum purchased for the entire school to use, and we are supposed to use it. However, the curriculum is very wordy, and if a child is a slow reader, it complicates the math. I wanted to step outside this curriculum to teach decimals to my students on a shortened timeframe with greater impact. I am so glad that I used this curriculum. I was able to teach them decimals quickly and concisely, without losing anyone to the wordy problems. I have used some of the 4th grade units before when I taught 4th grade and I knew that these would be just what my students needed. It did not disappoint. I intend to use these resources more in the future, and I hope to get approval to use it solely in my classroom. My students love doing math this way, and beg me to not use our purchased curriculum.
