Get your students thinking like engineers, explorers, and scientists with this hands-on, problem-based learning unit! In this creative and engaging project, students will research, design, and present their own space rover and mission.

The unit includes two interactive webquests where students learn about:

  • Past and current rover missions
  • The essential parts and functions of a space rover

Armed with this knowledge, students will move on to the three-part Rover Design Project, where they’ll:

  1. Plan their rover’s mission (destination, goals, challenges)
  2. Design their rover with specific features for its environment
  3. Build a prototype digitally using Tinker CAD or with Legos/craft materials for a hands-on option

Bonus: This unit pairs perfectly with Tinker CAD tutorials, and you can even 3D print student designs if you have access to a printer!
