Here’s a great way to apply the DESIGN PROCESS or Project Based Learning concepts using the movie, “ENCANTO.”
This EASY-PREP resource makes for a great GET TO KNOW YOU Activity for the teacher, as well as the rest of the class! Students consider what magical gift they would like to have and create their own door as part of the final project.
Their ideal magical gifts are great to share!
Students have the opportunity to showcase their unique casitas which supports building a positive and compassionate classroom culture.
Watching the movie, ENCANTO is not necessary, but it does make for a fun and meaningful before or after activity.

- Activity 1a | ASK | Close Read and Annotate | What is a Casita?
- Activity 1b and c | ASK | Creative Casita Specifications| Who, What, Where?
- Activity 2 | IMAGINE | Brainstorm Casita Space Indoors and Out
- Activity 3 |PLAN | Design a Tour Guide Brochure that highlights the Casita Details
- Activity 4 a-d | CREATE | Color, cut, and glue the Creative Casita Project
- Activity 5 | IMPROVE | Request Constructive Feedback from a PEER Inspector
- BONUS Activity | Persuasive Writing | Put the PROPERTY on the Market!
This 2+ Hour activity can be taught all at once or separately
