Digital Student Notebook: Cornell Notes Template & Homework Choices
Share

Description

I've searched online for years and have not found anything like this! So spare your hard work and try this template out!

I have assigned my students interactive notebooks since I started teaching in 2010. For 6 years I have been trying to recreate the experience of taking notes on a physical notebook digitally. I have created many versions and each year my students have tried them out with providing me feedback at the end of the year. This year, I have finally figured out what works best for my students ... AND me! (I actually use my digital notebooks for taking professional development courses)

Even with past versions, students I've had years ago still tell me how the interactive notebooks they used in my middle school class has helped them get through high school and college! I hope this is useful to you and your students :)

The Cornell Notes template is there to either have your students duplicate the template each class OR your can duplicate them yourself (25?) PRIOR to giving them the template. I typically have them add as we go, but entirely up to you. For my science class, I like to have an additional column for pictures/diagram for students to quickly reference when studying. In my class, we have a new notebook each quarter to reduce sifting through pages of content they no longer need.

This interactive notebook also includes instructions to what I call "CEA's" or "Creative Expression Activities." They can be used as homework assignment students can select on their own! Ex. "please complete a C.E.A. on the states of matter lesson we had today" ... and students can select whichever assignment they'd like (except the one-pager CEA which are based on readings). Please tailor these assignments and rubrics to suit your students and personal teaching style. You can also create your own CEA's!
