Description
Teach students coding skills while they draw. Directed drawing is a great way to help students understand what coding is and related coding concepts. Since drawing is a familiar activity, students have the ability to focus their attention on coding specific terms.
Teaching students coding concepts begins with activities that they are familiar with. These activities draw on students’ knowledge of shapes, lines, and directional relation to teach them about sequencing and conditionals.
AFTER downloading this resource you’ll get:
⭐ 8 different characters for students to draw. Most characters are connected to a book or beloved character.
⭐ Directed drawing grids that show students how to draw characters one step at a time. This is a great way for students to follow an algorithm, or sequence of code.
⭐ Audio directions that tell students, step-by-step, how to draw an image. These are great for strengthening students’ listening skills. These are great for students who are ready for more complex coding terms and concepts like conditional statements.
⭐ Drawing sheets for students to draw the character while they follow the steps, or algorithm.
⭐ QR Code printables that link students to audio directions that engage them in a directed drawing while practicing coding concepts.
YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE TEACHING CODING SKILLS AND CONCEPTS WHILE STUDENTS ARE DRAWING. AND YOU CAN PAIR EACH ACTIVITY TO A PICTURE BOOK TO STRENGTHEN THE CONCEPTS EVEN MORE.
This activity addresses CSTA AND ISTE standards.
