Description

Students will find distance between two points on the coordinate plane. There are 40 task cards included. Twenty task cards with only the two points given and twenty task cards with only the graph given. These task cards work with only horizontal and vertical lines. Examples are given for the same quadrant as well as points in different quadrants.

This resource includes:

  • Set of 40 task cards with distance between two points (Horizontal and vertical lines ONLY!)
  • 20 examples with only points given
  • 20 examples with only the graph given

--Points in the Same Quadrant

19 examples: 9 vertical(5 points only and 4 graphed)

10 horizontal(5 points only and 5 graphed)

--Points in Different Quadrants

21 examples: 10 with points only and 11 graphed

  • Blank Answer Document for students to write the expression used to solve, the distance, and if the line is horizontal or vertical
  • Answer Key

Options for using this resource:

These task cards can be used in Math Centers, as individual work, or as a group activity. I print the task cards on colored paper to save ink and laminate for future use. These can be put on a key ring and used multiple times!

Great practice for an important skill and concept. The repeated practice helped my students quickly see the differnce between horizontal and vertical distances as well as using signs to determine if the points were in the same quadrant or different quadrants. I would suggest starting with the last 20 questions first that use a visual plane to scaffold and then complete the first 20 problems without the plane to further understanding.

I love giving my students a chance to get out of their seats and do some practice work - these cards are great for a round or two of carousel! I also love how some of the task cards have coordinate planes while others do not - and some points are located in the same quadrant - always keeping the kids on their toes!
