Description
As we move into distance learning, our students need effective strategies to support their learning. Research has identified effective strategies... but few students use them. Help your students learn about effective study strategies, reflect on their own habits, and practice making observations based on data/graphs.
Use online resources (linked in the document) to learn about brain-based and research backed strategies, then used the two included Google Forms to collect data on which of six scientifically backed learning strategies your students use or plan to use, make observations about the class results, and reflect on their own learning.
Strategies:
Retrieval Practice
Interleaving
Spaced Practice
Elaboration
Concrete Examples
Dual Coding
Includes:
- Google Doc with lesson plan suggestions
- Tips and instructions for using and modifying Google Forms
- Two Google Forms: Brain Based Learning Data Collection and Brain Based Learning Reflection
Additional Resources:
- See my blog for more information about how I teach my students about effective learning strategies.
- Download the original (classroom based) activity, for ideas about including math connections.
- Check out other lessons that incorporate learning about learning with math
- Materials and lessons fordistance learning
