As students add ammonia to a copper sulfate solution drop by drop, they’ll observe dramatic changes and learn to analyze the reaction. There are several methods I use to get this resource to students. 

1. Since this is a PowerPoint, I simply upload it into a Google slides presentation and share it on Google Classroom with each individual student.   The students can then copy which slides they want and paste them into their own Google Slides unit presentation and add text boxes. 

2. You can export the PowerPoint into images and then send the images to them in Google Classroom. They can pick and choose which ones they want to use as a background and add text boxes. 

3. You can download the PowerPoint into images and place all of the images into a Google Drive folder to share with the students.  They can go in and pick and choose which background they want. 

4. If you are using iPads, in the same room as the students, you can simply AirDrop the images, Powerpoint or Google Slides presentation to their iPads .

I used this lab as we talked about types of chemical reactions! I love getting to incorporate hands on activities! This was great for that! The students were able to actually see what they had been practicing identifying from the formulas!

Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred. Examples of reactions could include burning sugar or steel wool, fat reacting with sodium hydroxide, and mixing zinc with hydrogen chloride. Assessment is limited to analysis of the following properties: density, melting point, boiling point, solubility, flammability, and odor.
NGSSHS-PS1-2
Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties. Examples of chemical reactions could include the reaction of sodium and chlorine, of carbon and oxygen, or of carbon and hydrogen. Assessment is limited to chemical reactions involving main group elements and combustion reactions.
