What are other teachers saying about this resource?

⭐⭐⭐⭐"Good resource for measurement unit."

⭐⭐⭐⭐"Great practice activities!"

☝ This standards-based unit includes comparing the length of two and three objects. The practice includes analyzing smallest, tallest, longest shortest, etc. and also ordering three objects. Students must be able to both compare and order by length and use the third object with non-standard objects to compare.

Mega Math Practice 1.MD.1 gives your students a lot of practice understanding the concept of comparing and ordering length. Your young mathematicians will begin to measure using non-standard units and the relative size of things. This is how we encourage higher-order spatial thinking in our young students.

Mega Math Practice can be used as independent practice for skills already taught, homework, or as a class starter. These pages are NOT meant to be used until students need practice with skills that they have already been taught. They should also not take the place of using actual manipulatives. The use of manipulatives is also helpful when using these practice pages. Students also need many opportunities to work with measurement in a variety of situations.

☝ This unit is aligned with the First Grade Common Core Math Standard 1.MD.1:

Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects

indirectly by using a third object.

☝ This unit includes practice with ordering and comparing length from the first-grade standards. I use these pages during our “written math practice” rotation during math workshop/guided math time. These pages can also be used for early finishers or homework during the time that you work with individuals and small groups. There are more MEGA MATH PRACTICE units aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
