This unit support the teaching of maths by providing a series of activities which develop essential skills in solving maths problems. They are designed for children to work on independently or in pairs, although this may not always be possible, and some children may need support. Where possible, a range of differentiated activities has been provided.

Objectives
- choose and use appropriate operations to solve word problems and to use appropriate ways of calculating.
- solve mathematical problems and puzzles and explore relationships and patterns.
- explain methods and reasoning.
- solve one-step and two-step worded problems in areas of real life such as money and measures.
- recognise coins and $.c notation.

The unit includes differentiated games and activities that will appeal to all children of elementary school age.
