What others say

"This is a fantastic resource to help students set goals and to document their progress. The graphs really helped my students see how they were performing and if they needed to study more to reach their goals in testing. "

Data notebooks are a great tool to help students take responsibility throughout the school year. In my classroom, we set up our notebooks at the beginning of the year and check-in weekly throughout the year. These notebooks also make a great addition to student-led conferences.

This product is the 3rd edition of my data notebooks. The theme of this notbook is "Notebook Doodles". The BIG difference between this one and the other two is that this product is editable.

How to Use Data Notebooks to Boost Classroom Culture

The only difference between the first two notebooks is the theme. Click below to take a closer look:

1st Edition: Superhero Theme

2nd Edition: Happy Kids Theme

3rd Edition: Notebook Doodles (Editable)

Included in this file:

-Teacher Guide

-Cover

-Student Reflection Sheets

-Goal Setting Sheet

-Mission & Vision

This is a recording sheet for students to use after the class has created their mission and vision whole group.

-Class Rules

This is meant to be used as a template for a brainstorm web. Students should draw lines from the existing circle with the class-created rules.

-Quality Students

Figures of students for "quality" student brainstorming and diagramming.

-Quality Teachers

Students will do this the exact same way as the quality student. They will record attributes they think a teacher should have.

-Writing Portfolio Covers

In my classroom, I use these at the end of the year. Throughout the year, I save one writing a month and in June, I bind all the pages with a cover and a back sheet. The kids who didn’t buy yearbooks use the blank back sheet as an autograph page for their friends on the last day of school.

-Data Tracking

This page is generic so students can use it to track any kind of data. Some of the things my students have graphed in the past include:

-unit tests for all subjects

-weekly spelling test scores

-reading fluency

-timed multiplication tests

-morning work % correct

-monthly/weekly behavior (with percentages based on the # of days out of the month/week they earned their behavior sticker)

-8 Smarts

These sheets were created for students to illustrate how they use their multiple intelligences (Howard Gardner) in school every day.

My students will add other pages throughout the year as well; such as weekly behavior logs or test score sheets.

There is so much that can be done with a data notebook in elementary classrooms. I found that the more I find ways to incorporate student data-tracking, the more students become aware of their progress and determined to succeed!
