Description
This is a set of elapsed time scavenger hunt activities that give student a fun way to practice 3rd grade math skills.
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
There are 2 separate scavenger hunts in this resource:
Set A: Students are given starting and ending times and must calculate the amount of elapsed time.
SET B: Students are given a starting time and amount of elapsed time and must determine the ending time. This set of cards requires students to read time on an analog clock.
Each set includes:
- 15-18 elapsed time cards
- Secret code recording sheet
- Answer key
Digital Version
The secret code recording sheets have been prepared for digital use in Easel. Answer boxes are already in place for students to type their answers. Using the digital option will let you save paper and ink by not having to print a worksheet for each child.
HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE
To play, give each students a recording sheet. Scatter the elapsed time cards around the room. When students find a card, they solve the problem and fill in the letter on their code sheet. If all are solved correctly, a secret message will be revealed!
These activities can also be used in your math centers instead of as a scavenger hunt. Instructions included in the file.
Preparing for a sub? Instead of busy work, include one of these scavenger hunts in your sub file! It's super easy to set up and the substitute will be free to move around the room to assist students.
This resource supports the following 3rd grade math standard:
3.MD.A.1
Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
