Description

Introduction Lesson to Elements, Compounds, Chemical Symbols, Chemical Formulas, Subscripts, and the formation of a new substance. A graphic organizer is also included on the last slide for students to place in their Science Journal to use as a reference.

I usually start with having students highlight key information on the graphic organizer, then walk students through the PowerPoint while practicing the difference between Chemical Symbols/Formulas, How to write a Chemical Formula when the elements used are given, as well as being able to identify the formation of a new substance or not based on the number of elements used and the chemical formula to decide if it is a new substance or the same substance.

I also have a worksheet that goes along with the PowerPoint (separate purchase) that students can complete on their own while the teacher visit with students to clear up any misconceptions.
