Description
This Engage NY (Eureka Math) PowerPoint allows for a seamless flow, is entertaining and visually appealing for the students and I do not waste time with teacher manipulatives. The Power Point provides a quicker use of manipulatives and provides much better visuals of materials for students from all areas in the classroom. In addition, you will have the ability to walk around the classroom and the animations appear as if you were at the front of the room. I have added additional guidance and misconceptions from what I learned inside my departmentalized classroom (2 math classes per day). There is no need to turn back to the manual.
All the key elements are ready, in lesson order (I start with the application daily as a do-now), for you to read and follow along. Each Presentation will help you teach all the components of one entire lesson, from Fluency Practice, to the Application Problem, through the Concept Development, Problem Set, and Student Debrief at the end.
These lessons are very detailed, and the presentation does not entirely take the place of reviewing the lesson and becoming familiar with its content. Each lesson typically contains the following with a huge amount of visual supports and ANIMATIONS when needed: 2 pages for the Application Problem with possible student response from the curriculum, Fluency Practice, Concept Development with my student's misconceptions and teaching strategies added, 2 pages of the Problem Set with only a few questions selected for targeted learning with possible student response and Student Debriefing with one question aligned to the objective.
I did not write the Engage NY content; it is available online for free at Engage NY.org. Anyone can use it! I am selling my time and creativity in designing supplemental presentations. From what I understand, Engage NY and Eureka Math are very similar, if not identical. I’ve had many teachers tell me they use my Presentations to teach Eureka Math content. I personally have only worked with Engage NY.
Engage NY (Eureka Math) is a free curriculum that I began using at my school about 5 years ago and while the lessons are deep in critical thinking, the manuals were very dry, extremely detailed and hard to follow. On top of that, there is a brand-new lesson every day. Therefore, I decided to create presentations to help me remember the organization of the lessons and animations for me to teach from anywhere in the room. These lessons mirror the module and allow you to interact with your students while staying on track. They have the answers to the application problems as well as the selected problem set questions, so you can have students recognize their mistakes and you can provide immediate feedback.
As you are completing the presentation, you may feel like you are running out of time. It is alright to skip some of the fluency activities or some ending slides to finish your lesson on time. I have added multiple examples from the lesson, just in case your students pick up on the learning quickly.
