Description
Teach students how engineers think and solve real-world problems with this Applied Engineering Week 1 project-based CTE unit. Designed for Grades 6–12, this 5-day Engineering CTE resource (40–50 minute lessons) moves students beyond career awareness into professional engineering reasoning, systems thinking, and design justification.
Students learn how engineers define problems, work within constraints, evaluate interconnected systems, and analyze trade-offs before proposing solutions. Instruction builds toward an Engineering Solution Proposal Mini Capstone, where students design and defend a solution to a real-world problem using evidence-based reasoning.
This unit functions as Week 1 of a 4-Week Applied Engineering sequence, but may also be taught as a stand-alone engineering problem-solving mini-unit in Engineering, STEM, or CTE courses.
WHERE THIS UNIT FITS IN YOUR ENGINEERING CTE CURRICULUM
