As a GATE Program Teacher, I’m always looking for creative and interesting activities and study trips that support my students' critical thinking, creative thinking, and problem-solving aspirations.
Here in San Diego, we have one of the first-of-it’s-kind Memory Centers called, Glenner Town Square. I had the opportunity to take my GATE students on a tour and was really impressed with the compassion and success they have using Memory Therapy in an era-appropriate setting.
My students and I loved the creativity and thoughtfulness that was used in architectural design. We realized that with the success of centers such as this, there might be a demand for future designs to evolve with the times.
So while today’s center reflects the 1950s, because that’s where the participant's core memories stem from, students were eager to design a Memory Center that would reflect the future architectural design when they reach their 70s or 80s. What objects, buildings, or activities will make them smile 60 years from now?
